Breaking: Ex-CBN governor, Emefiele freed from Kuje prison

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has been released from Kuje prison, confirmed by Umar Abubakar, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) spokesman, in an exclusive statement to DAILY POST on Saturday.

Abubakar confirmed Emefiele’s release on Friday, stating that he fulfilled his bail conditions for his release from Kuje prison.

This development follows a bail grant of N300 million by Justice Hamza Muazu on November 22, 2023. The conditions included having sureties with landed properties in Abuja’s Maitama District.

Emefiele faced charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Federal Government for alleged N1.2 billion procurement fraud. He was remanded in prison until bail conditions were met.

This release occurs amid revelations of financial impropriety attributed to Emefiele in an interim report by Jim Obazee, the special investigator probing the CBN.
