LaLiga cuts Barcelona spending limit by €66m

LaLiga announced on Tuesday a further reduction in Barcelona’s annual spending limit, cutting it by €66 million from €270 million to €204 million.

This adjustment comes after a previous reduction of €400 million in September. In comparison, Real Madrid holds the highest spending cap in LaLiga at €727 million, while Atlético Madrid’s cap is also higher than Barcelona’s at €303 million.

The latest spending limits underscore the significant challenges facing Barcelona as they strive to regain competitiveness in the transfer market.

The squad costs, regulated by the spending cap, currently exceed €400 million, more than double the limit imposed by LaLiga.

Consequently, Barcelona is subject to financial restrictions, allowing them to spend only a percentage of the savings from salaries or the funds generated through transfer fees.

The specific percentage varies based on the size of the savings. This financial situation poses obstacles for Barcelona as they navigate their way back to a more sustainable and competitive position.
